In honor of Will Smith’s – aka the Fresh Prince – 50th birthday, the Jordan Brand will be releasing an alternate take on the illustrious Air Jordan 5 “Grape” inspired by the laceless pair he frequently wore on set. Leading up the the drop, Smith and the Jumpman have created a hilarious marketing campaign centered around parody unboxing videos, giving Smith a @philasneakerguy68 alias. Of course, devoid of any laces, this upcoming Jordan 5 equips Nike Air branding on its heels, a special West Philadelphia hit underneath its tongue, and custom Fresh Prince x Jordan insoles done up in a familiar pink and yellow striped pattern. Due to its NRG label, pairs are expected to be relatively limited upon their arrival at select retailers on September 25th, Smith’s actual birthday. However, the Jumpman will also be releasing an incredibly exclusive friends and family pair dipped in gold that will be capped at only 23 pairs worldwide.
Dubbed the Air Jordan 5 NRG Fresh Prince, this iteration of the model opts for an Air Jordan 5 Grape color scheme as White, Grape Ice, Black, and New Emerald can all be found on the leather shoe. What really gives the shoe the Fresh Prince vibes is the decision to remove the customary lacing system by sealing the lace holes, resulting in a slip-on design, much like Will used to wear on your favorite 90’s sitcom. Other details on the shoe include the “West Philadelphia” text underneath the tongue, Nike Air branding on the heels and Fresh Prince inspired insoles. Look for the Air Jordan 5 NRG Fresh Prince to debut on September 25th.
Dressed in a White, Grape Ice, Black, and New Emerald color scheme. This Air Jordan 5 looks exactly like the OG Grapes, but with some added detailing. It includes “West Philadelphia” text underneath the tongue, Nike Air branding on the heels, no laces (sealed lace holes) – as a nod to the way Will Smith wore them, and Fresh Prince inspired insoles.
